About the organisation

Global AI Certification for a Better Tomorrow

Driven by a vision for a brighter future

RAIL Initiative is about safely harnessing the power of Artificial Intelligence for all. We believe that AI has the potential to transform lives, revolutionise industries, and solve some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. However, we also recognise that the benefits of AI are not evenly distributed, and its misuse can have serious consequences.

We exist to address both the benefits and risks of AI, beginning with a foundational industry-recognised certification: the Responsible Use of AI Licence (RAIL).

OUR VISION

More people safely participating in the AI revolution.

OUR MISSION

To provide a globally recognised certification for the use of AI in the workplace, from foundational understanding through to training on popular vendor tools.

The birth of RAIL Initiative

RAIL emerged from crucial conversations with leaders in industry, government, and academia.

As AI has rapidly permeated society over the last several years – in particular with the release of chatbots such as ChatGPT and Claude bringing AI to the masses –  two common themes surfaced. Firstly, the significant opportunity to increase productivity and the need to do so in order to maintain competitiveness. And secondly, the risks associated with the unbridled use of AI were outpacing our ability to manage them responsibly.

Business leaders worried about data security, including the use of proprietary data being fed into models that would then use the data to benefit others. Government officials grappled with regulatory challenges, and whether or not departments should even allow access to popular platforms for their own teams. And amongst it all, academics raised ethical concerns around AI development and the very real potential for unintended consequences.

All conversations pointed to a critical need: wide-scale training in the safe and productive use of AI across almost every organisation.

As a result, a team of AI experts and industry veterans was assembled to develop RAIL – Responsible Use of AI Licence – a certification program designed to equip professionals with essential AI competencies. Our curriculum addresses the urgent need for AI literacy, bridging the knowledge gap between developers with high technical skills and the millions of end-users working with the tools and platforms those developers create.

RAIL Initiative’s mission extends beyond certification. By providing greater understanding of AI fundamentals, we seek to build a more informed populace that can more meaningfully engage in discussion about the responsible development and application of AI across society. It is our belief that in so doing, RAIL Initiative can play a critical part in ensuring the benefits of AI are maximised while risks are effectively managed across society.

Introducing the RAIL Initiative

We've brought together leaders in AI research, education, industry, and government to provide a practical solution to an urgent need: building the capability of individuals and teams to thrive in a future where AI is prominent.
